Saturday Video Frenzy!

That's right - Saturday Video Frenzy time.

Tom Dugan is now riding for Fit. Joe Rich is cool with this. Mike Aitken is cool with this. Ergo, you should also be cool with this. Here's a sort of 'see you later alligator' edit Joe Rich did featuring Tom, Joe and Ruben Alcantara riding some crazy setups in Malaga, at the time for T-1.



Double header from the Etnies/DansComp tour - first up, this edit of the whole trip. Features Chase Dehart, Nathan Williams, Corey Martinez, Tony Hamlin and some other people here and there. That ender is sweet.



The Bakery also have a little edit from when that trip rolled through - I'm assuming I won't be able to embed it, so click here to watch it with the date over-laid over part of the video.

Randy Taylor footage is always good to see, especially after the past 12 months where he's been MIA for one reason or other. This edit is his getting back into things vid for Mutiny.



Dennis Enarson is ridiculous, as this video I saw over on the Props site shows. Just sayin'.

Reason.

Almost a week off? Er... yeah... about that...

Whilst I didn't really do much in the space of a week apart from ride quite a lot and watch rugby matches in freezing stadiums in Cardiff, Rich Forne managed to show how the productive people of the world do things by going to Israel and managing to get a billion clips despite both riders taking themselves out of the equation mid-way through the trip. Skills. A different take on things to most BMX videos which is cool to see.



That was for Mutiny in case you hadn't guessed.

Keeping it more local (Although knowing Bow, probably about as dangerous as being in Israel), Tim Lewis is now hooked up good 'n' proper and has this video to celebrate that fact. I knew Tim pretty well from the 3 years of riding around London we shared together, but getting to hit up London again recently to say hi again was a treat. Rad dude, and no video will ever really give you the full Tim experience.



Tim's style always sort of reminded me of Brad Simms, and as if to just give me the evidence to try and prove that, The Set put up this video of him a day or two ago. Simply ridiculous. Going uuuup...



Lastly, Cinema put this up today. Awesome team, soon to have some good product flowing out the door too if rumours are to be believed? Anyways, here she blows.

The only thing bigger than the moves in that was that embed code. Jesus H. Christ that scared the hell out of me when that popped up. Speaking of rubbish embedding, oh look - the Sunday player. I used to - for some reason - think I wasn't really keen on Alex Magellan's riding, but this video set that straight. Cool style, cool outlook, cool moves. Cool.



I CtrlC+CtrlV'd that content, but I definitely won't be doing that with this Ben Hittle interview, and this Chase Dehart interview, both of which are pretty cool.

As a result of seeing that Ben Hittle interview I lurked TheKinkHouse site and saw this pretty amazing Sean Sexton edit. I'd argue that those moves were oppo rather than switch, but tomato/tomato, right? Way to use an audio joke in a text-based piece eh.



Lastly, yet another awesome video from Mathias Dandois. Seeing as street seems to generally take some cues from flat, it'll be interesting to see what people make of this...

So, it's been a while. Saw a bunch of cool stuff I didn't get a chance to post, so here's a sort of fragmented recap on things I thought were good/interesting.

ESPN had a bit of an Empire related frenzy this week (well, not really) - firstly a 'house check' with Chase Hawk showing how riding bicycle well can make you enough money to get amongst it in a piiiiimp apartment, and secondly with a catch-up with Tom from Empire about Dave Parrick who's currently throwing together the new Empire video. Confused? You will be. The last ESPN piece I was going to mention was this interview with Chase Dehart. Seems like a pretty straight-up kinda person which is good to see in this day and age. Seeing as that's a load of text-related posts which will interest about 2% of the readership of this blog, here's some moving pictures and sounds.

Kink are not only almost homeless, but are also in possession of some ridiculously talented riders. This video highlights this.



I spotted this over on Clicked who spotted it on Vinyl (which means, Mr. Anonymous Commenter from before, that I didn't 'just copy it from TCU or Vital'...). Clint Reynolds is one stylish dude, and is yet another reason to buy Anthem 2. Just saying.



Something that did come from TheComeUp is this - the intro to OSS "Football", and the first section by Mr. Rory Ellis. Tune! Very much looking forward to Craig Passero and Mastroni's sections in that.



Lastly, one for you filming geeks - a 1000fps edit that isn't someone nibbling a park. Bruno's got a crazy way of doing things!



Seeing as no-one (apart from Woozy) use it any more, it's mental seeing the embed code for Youtube now having been so used to the new slim-line Vimeo code.

Compare and contrast...

One's a video from a major company showcasing the riding of some of the best known riders on the planet, with travel budgets, pro salaries, appearance fees, etc., and one's a lo-fi video filmed by some guy from Sheffield to document some riding with his friends. Interesting to see which one had the biggest effect on the BMX world though. I wish my copy of Voices still worked...







I can still pretty clearly remember getting home, seeing my copy of Voices had come then how it felt watching it for the first time. Game changer.

Tunney vision?

It's almost a Tunney Tuesday (although it isn't in that this was all posted on Monday, I'm just posting it on a Tuesday 'cos I had loads to do today) - Defgrip got together with ex-Dig/current-ESPN writer, rider and general font of knowledge Brian Tunney to create one of the more interesting BMX-related interviews I've read online. Click here to read through it, here for Brian's 'personal' site, and here for his predictions for 2011. There aren't that many people out there who have been as involved in all levels of BMX as Tunney has over such a sustained period of time, so it gives things a little more depth and interest compared to the usual lashed together Q&A type stuff with whoever happens to be flavour of the month that appears on various sites from time to time.

Ever since I first got linked to an old episode of Buttery Ass Mondays I've been pretty much hooked on TheBerrics, so it's interesting to see a video from Cult filmed in there. It's weird not seeing the setup being filmed in the usual Berrics style, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Some cool lines go down and everyone appears to be having a fun time which is what it's all about. Seeing a car/van full of 'big name pros' getting so visibly excited about going and riding somewhere is good to see, at least they're appreciating the opportunity!



One person who very much appreciated the benefits of being a 'pro' rider - to the extent where he stepped down from the pro team as he apparently didn't feel able to live up to his side of things due to his study commitments (you can read an interview with him here about it, and also get to see a super nice photo of a rail-ride to whip) - was and is Eli Platt, who's section from the Into The Void video went up today. He's also got some choice clips in Anthem II, don'tcha know.

Cool video on Friday?

Notice how last Friday I made a 'cool video Friday' post? Well, turns out that - courtesy of some power-lurking on Facebook there's going to be a 'cool video Friday' this Friday at the shop in the form of an Anthem II showing. I know how good that video's going to be. You know how good that video's going to be. If it wasn't a 6 hour drive to get there I'd be all over that, so if you have a less than 6 hour drive to get there you really should be going there. Even if it's not for you, do it for me.

Speaking of Facebook lurking, it also allowed me to see this gem from what I'm going to call the Case-book page - a sweet exclusive edit from Vinyl which features a song with what sounds like the line "Come back baby/I'll bust you up".



Just in case that doesn't work, if you click that link up there then yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, to quote Rudyard Kipling fully out of context.

Whilst we're taking stuff out of context, I also got a glimpse of this courtesy of Facebook. If you're a TLC fan, look away now.

Unbeknownst to me, Shadow have been uploading Into The Void, with this week's section being the Chase Dehart/Dave Rytell split. It's a pretty bold section in that instead of music, Shadow decided to apparently just loop some white noise, but it does feature some Chase Dehart footage in his techidy-tech peak (you know, back when the tech:burly ratio was much more in favour of the tech) which is always good to see.



This also leads me to wonder whether Shadow will try and replicate their 'hidden sections' thing when they post the video online by hosting the videos on some obscure website that you'll only ever find when someone on BikeGuide happens to stumble across it.

For some reason, videos on Ride's site never seem to play properly for me. I know Dyno told me he was supposed to be heading to Ramp City soon and that I should get amongst it, so I'm effectively posting this here so I can actually watch it and see if he went. Because of that, I have no idea how good this video is, so I'll need to place it in some sort of quarantine state:

Lesser-spotted?

That's right, the lesser spotted evening-home-blog. Chase Dehart has come up with some pretty cool moves in his time, and inspired a hell of a lot of people, so it's cool to see that he appears to have a reasonably sound head on his shoulders. I don't usually read many of the Rapid Response features on Dig because a lot of BMXers don't really seem to have much to say, so it was cool to read Chase's replies.

...right.

Speaking of 'pretty cool', Pete's reply of "Take a hike, Spielberg" to a negative commenter on TheComeUp is definitely one of the best rebuttals I've seen on a BMX site. While I'm talking about TheComeUp, those BallParkFranks adverts need to go. I've got about 12 tabs open at the moment, so the race to find which tab was randomly autoplaying Dave Mirra talking about things I don't care about wasn't much fun. That's not even mentioning the massive skating adverts all round the page too. Matador nailing that targeted advertising. Oh, wait...

This was up a while ago, but it got re-posted by Cult and is worth watching again.

Having been stuck in bed the past few days, I'm going to go and resume my marathon BBC iPlayer session. Woke at 8am, watched the end of the F1, watched the end of the MotoGP, then smashed through the Commonwealth Games coverage. I am so bored.

Cough cough.

Just been using some tinted lacquer in the next room, and that + a cold = bad times in a respiratory sense. Not cool.

What is cool is going online and finding a Cinema promo up. Chase Dehart, Garrett Reynolds, Corey Martinez, Sean Sexton, Nathan Williams? Mm-hmm.



Now - if someone named their contest and had the phrase "Street" in there, you'd expect some street, wouldn't you? Well, apparently not...

I posted the London section from One More Brew up a while back, but after some negative comments Ollie decided to let the terrorists win and take down the video. Dario's section has been uploaded too, and appears to be here to stay so hopefully this won't lead to a confusing post where there's a big 'Video not available' in it...

Cult are keeping themselves in the media spotlight with this Chase Dehart edit. Only short, but that last combo's sweet. Cult seem to be going at the PR thing in a fairly pro, skateboarding-esque way. More power to them, I guess...



Now for two things that are completely different - a pretty cool interview with Sandy Carson (That I saw over on United), and this cool old school photo feature that I saw over on Volume.

Fun time.

Well, when snow means you can't ride your normal bike, but that doesn't mean you can't ride any type of bike. This thing rules! Front ski has suspension so it levels off a bit more when you're riding it, but means you can jump it and land a bit sketchy if you have to. Awesome.






I can't remember if I put it up before (I hope I did...), but Sunday have put up Part 1 of Ian Schwartz's section from Up, Up and Away. The second part is pure bangers, this is just pure tech. All good.

Lastly, TheComeUp has a new video from Chase Dehart, Randy Brown and others. The song is awful and the quality's not much better, but it's pretty much worth watching just for a bump 3 that Randy Brown does about 3/4 of the way in. Click here.

Conflict of interest?

Interesting how a company can link to videos like Zeitgeist and stuff like that with some fairly outwardly religious dudes on their team. Probably reading too much into that... but yeah, I'm still pretty interested to see how it all works out in the long run. Into Adam Roye's graphics and the like, and it seems to be a bit different to the 'normal' BMX company vibe which can only be a good thing. Saw this on TCU anyway:

It's my birthday and I'll cry if I want to...

I think I posted up Chase Hawk's prototype signature Cult (Apparently the graphics say 'CVLT', but bearing in mind we've now worked out how to include curves in type-faces I'm still going with 'Cult') frame before, but Adam from TCU just threw up some links to Dakota Roche and Chase Dehart's setups. Not super keen myself, but then again my ideas about frames probably aren't the same as you.

Having lived by South Bank for 3 years, I got pretty used to having a decent under-cover winter spot. Unfortunately, I then moved to Newcastle (pre warehouse setup) where it rained all the time and had no under-cover spot after the death of Get Carter, and now I'm in Mid Wales where it's just rainy and snowy, with no covered over spot. Luckily for Alex Kennedy, he's got a pretty ideal Sainsburys car park to get rad in, which he does in this video. Some pretty cool stuff on the go here:

New Superstar cassette

The latest in the line of companies trying to compete with the G-Sport Ratchet and create a strong female-axle rear hub is Superstar, although, like many others, they appear to have gone for the weaker 3/8" female axle, rather than a 14mm female axle. It can't be that hard to make one with a 14mm female axle, surely? At least it'd be more reassuring for peg use then...
