Cool video on Friday?

Notice how last Friday I made a 'cool video Friday' post? Well, turns out that - courtesy of some power-lurking on Facebook there's going to be a 'cool video Friday' this Friday at the shop in the form of an Anthem II showing. I know how good that video's going to be. You know how good that video's going to be. If it wasn't a 6 hour drive to get there I'd be all over that, so if you have a less than 6 hour drive to get there you really should be going there. Even if it's not for you, do it for me.

Speaking of Facebook lurking, it also allowed me to see this gem from what I'm going to call the Case-book page - a sweet exclusive edit from Vinyl which features a song with what sounds like the line "Come back baby/I'll bust you up".

Whilst we're taking stuff out of context, I also got a glimpse of this courtesy of Facebook. If you're a TLC fan, look away now.

Unbeknownst to me, Shadow have been uploading Into The Void, with this week's section being the Chase Dehart/Dave Rytell split. It's a pretty bold section in that instead of music, Shadow decided to apparently just loop some white noise, but it does feature some Chase Dehart footage in his techidy-tech peak (you know, back when the tech:burly ratio was much more in favour of the tech) which is always good to see.



This also leads me to wonder whether Shadow will try and replicate their 'hidden sections' thing when they post the video online by hosting the videos on some obscure website that you'll only ever find when someone on BikeGuide happens to stumble across it.

For some reason, videos on Ride's site never seem to play properly for me. I know Dyno told me he was supposed to be heading to Ramp City soon and that I should get amongst it, so I'm effectively posting this here so I can actually watch it and see if he went. Because of that, I have no idea how good this video is, so I'll need to place it in some sort of quarantine state:

Funnily enough, I just cased the back wheel of my road bike (yeah, yeah...) riding from my car to my house and got a savage pinch flat. Sucks to be me.

In case-related news, the new Case is out. Considering there's been a few "street riders are scum of the earth/street isn't real BMX"* opinion-based pieces in there before, no doubt some of the more ardent followers aren't going to be feeling the cover. Still, it's cool to see a slightly more balanced output.

Purely because it's not an incredibly weak bite of TheBerrics, I'm posting this particular jam/comp vid and not a couple of videos of others that have surfaced recently. Tyrone looks a hell of a lot like Will.i.am in this, I noticed. Probably because I don't think I've ever actually seen him when he's not riding, maybe...

Man, I forgot how balls being ill is. As a result, looking at not-very-interesting videos from Interbike hasn't been too appealing. Seems most people are just bringing out new colourways of old products, "new to them" catalogue products or just a range of bangin' completes. Once it's all died down a little I'll try and put up some highlights rather than going for the total media saturation that everyone else is keen on.

In total contrast, I've been pretty into this after seeing them on the Case Facebook page - the raw footage from Clint Reynolds' coast to coast trip. Here's part one - click through their channel for others. After being totally blown away by This Is United, most other vids seemed pretty tame but the pure awesomeness and simplicity of this video really got me. It's always cool seeing people having fun doing what they enjoy, and when 'what they enjoy' happens to be blasting rad tables, super smooth gaps and boosting airs like Clint Reynolds, it's even better.

First, some new product stuff. Cult have an Occult pivotal seat out. It's your usual stumpy Pivotal, but has what some people might consider a more alluring cover.



Cardinal's new frame also has a feature on Ride US. It's funny how MTB companies are always trying to copy BMX, but end up being a few years behind, whereas now a BMX company is copying what MTB companies used to do years ago. They're leaving behind vertical dropouts for a reason, but hey ho - I'm sure the public will decide...

Oh - sort of a new product I guess, but issue 3 of CASE is due to drop soon. Don't think I saw #2, but #3 looks like it's light-years ahead of #1 in terms of design and (possibly) content, which is cool. Good to see progression there, and it's also good to see what looks like a pretty sweet end product. Looking forward to checking out the Tom Davis interview too - the guy's ridiculously good, yet still pretty much unknown. Having said that, I didn't realise he was sponsored now - although I probably knew at the time but forgot. Getting old or something... Anyways, Defgrip have the preview.

Case BMX Magazine - Mike Netley Interview

It certainly is a bold move to bring out a new BMX magazine in this day and age. Case BMX Magazine is out this Friday, and it's free! If you're in the UK, then just go to your nearest good BMX shop, who will gladly hand you a copy.

I caught up with Mike Netley, the editor of Case, to ask him a few questions on his new venture.



First off, for those who don't know you, could you tell us a little about yourself?
"My name is Michael. I'm 23, been riding for 10 years, would rather spend a good day at the trails with a BBQ and friends than anything else and I started a new BMX magazine 6 months ago and the first issue is about done.... NOW!"

Subway or KFC?
"Those new BBQ beast meals from KFC are quite a treat. With a side order of hot wings too. Yeah son! Pepsi or Pepsi max, I'm not fussed. A shit ton of ketchup and a lot of salt on the chips. Lil tub of BBQ baked beans in the BBQ beast box meal too. Bangin'"

You've made many contributions to BMX publications in the last couple of years. What prompted you to start Case BMX Magazine?
"I myself wanted to see something different and it became apparent to me that ride and dig weren't going in the right direction and had no intention of doing so. What it comes down to is me being selfish and putting what i want to see in a magazine and hoping that others share a similar vision. I'm kidding about the selfish bit, but from what i hear people are certainly more than ready for a change!"

Obviously a lot of thought has gone into Case BMX Magazine. Was it hard to make the decision to give the magazine away for free, or has this always been one of your objectives?
"there was initially going to be a cover price. but after speaking with a lot of shops it was made quite clear to me that magazine sales were severely down. being free is my unique selling point. it sets Case apart from the rest. free of charge, more people will see it = better pitch to give to the advertisers."

Apart from being free, what sets Case apart from other magazines?
"i have a few things i want to do with Case...

its not happened on the first issue but id like to run exclusive adverts.

i believe this will benefit the magazine and the advertisers for the same reason.

that reason is... no one is going to pay any real attention to an advert they have already seen in another magazine, so if its new, more people will take note of it.

this is good for the advertisers because they can show off other products and people WILL look at it. it's good for case, cos its exclusive and no one would have seen it yet. simple.

each issue, i basically want to put someone who i would consider a bit of a legend on the cover. i think that will appeal to a lot of the people who have been around for a long time.

I plan on covering all aspects of riding where ever possible and will not solely focus on what ever is trendy at the time.

Case is fully rider owned. their are no big fancy names to impress so what appears in case is truthful and to the point. if something sucks, it sucks, if its good, then people will know its good"

You have a full time job already. How do you find the time to put together a magazine?
"for the past 2 months (when putting the magazine together), i worked a 9-5, got home, had dinner, then sat down at about 7am and worked solidly until the early hours of the morning.

i did that pretty much every day for 2 months. it wasn't easy but it sure was worth it."

Can you give us a sneak peak of what we can expect in the first issue?
"loads and loads. seriously, issue one is stacked.

A cross-over post from another blog, with details of what's going on at Pijin? Mind-killer. Anyways, Netley's got some very reasonably priced T's on the go (£8 a pop, with free badges 'n' stickers? Hells yeah) which you can either get through him direct or from the shop. Blacks only go down to medium now, but there are smalls in white and yellow.

This is a video of a trip to Montreal by the dudes at Niagara St that features some spots I really wouldn't mind riding, a cool vibe, and a manual to 360 down a stairset that I didn't for one second actually think was going to go round. You'll see what I mean...



Mike King's been busy in Germany - not only getting that Mr. Watkinson video out, but also this trip edit too. Much like my earlier statement that I'm not allowing people to post videos with Tanwalls in 'til I get some, I'm also going to have to respectfully ask that no-one else goes on trips, makes cool edits and puts them online 'til I get a chance to head off somewhere. Feels like forever since I last went on a trip!
