Holidays should be relaxing

...but they aren't. As a result of a brief roadtrip then a load of image editing work, I've been a bit out of the loop this week, so as much for my own benefit as anything else, here's some stuff.

Vimeo has some new coding action on the go, so if it goes wrong, directly blame Vimeo and indirectly blame those tool-bags over at Apple.

Dan Lacey has dropped a new Daily Telegraph edit. That's a phrase I didn't think I'd ever say. Head over to Federal to view it, as I refuse to put auto-playing videos on here...

Speaking - as we were - of Ride, they've got a new edit of Lima up which also gives you the chance to win an ATF. Click that link to go over there and grovel like a 'tard like so many people seem to, thinking it'll enhance their chances.



I don't know why, but the way that video was edited sort of made it seem like as a viewer, I was being punished for something. In related 'music I didn't like' editing news, Ride US posted a 2 week old video on their site that featured literally the worst song I've ever heard - which was in fact so bad I'm not posting it here - but it did lead me to seeing this video of Hoang Tran on Vimeo after I did a bit of lurking on Subrosa's channel. Hefty.



Another Vimeo find was this edit of Bruno Hoffmann. The guy's ridiculous.

Out of the blue...

Pretty ideal video to pop up of a Saturday morning - a 35 minute web-video feat. pretty much all the most interesting riders around. Click here to view it, see some good riding, and if you're "One of them" to realise that a good video doesn't mean you put a 50mm on your dSLR, put it on a tripod then film the same boring ultra close up, slow-mo'd clips of people's tyres at a skatepark over and over again, then make a cripplingly boring 5 minute long video that could've been 30secs...

Totally forgot to put this in when I first put the post live.

The whole "Lil _____" nickname thing has irritated me in what's a fairly irrational way for a while now, so almost purely down to that I hadn't really checked out this video until just now. I'm glad I did though, because the riding is out of hand. There's something about the 180 point of a well-thrown truck that just looks absolutely amazing. It's hard to explain what I mean, but hopefully to those of you who understand you'll appreciate it too...



No doubt all the tools who complain about sponsorship changes (e.g. "Oh, Dakota Roche left Fit when he had a signature frame and then left Lotek when he got a signature shoe too") are going to be all over this, but Dan Lacey is now off Lotek. Inside knowledge: I usually fully manually type everything when I'm doing a link like that - the whole a href biz, the bold tags, the name, then the closing tags. As a result, it gives me a little time to think absentmindedly as I type them, and I was so uninterested in that snippet of news that I almost stopped typing mid-way through it. Either way, apparently Dan's using Vans at the moment which is both pleasant in a rhyming sense but is also an indicator of good taste as Vans shoes are absolutely awesome. The TNT4s have been keeping my feet intact and dry for the past few months (taking over duty from the Half Cab), and they're pretty much the best shoe out there. Assuming of course you buy shoes based on their performance advantages and a preference for understated style rather than purchasing requirements being "Gigantic" and "Gawdy".

If you, like me, can't believe that a paragraph about shoes was just spawned from a snippet of news that even I didn't care about, well... there we go. Maybe watch this to take your mind off things.

Anyways, someone who loses in the pedalling fast at stuff stakes is Liam Fahy-Hampton. His Run At Me Slut section was amazing (click the tag at the bottom to find it), and this one's pretty cool too.

Busy day?

Moving house, driving for 7 hours, not water in my house all day. Grumble. May well explain this post?





These are two new videos from Nike (That I saw over on Defgrip - linkity link!). I can appreciate that people outside of BMX might be able to make better looking videos with fancier graphics, but if you want someone to capture the 'feel' of BMX, someone involved with it is always going to get the point. It's pretty much a fact. If you look at photography and video work by people like Edd Templeton, Larry Clark and so on, their work is amazing because they're actively involved with what they're portraying. You can't get the real atmosphere and vibe of something if you have no involvement with it. There are so many talented filmers and photographers involved with BMX it seems ridiculous that they overlooked all of them. The majority of the BMX media world are generally under-valued as it is (Bearing in mind that without good filmers, those DVDs and web-videos everyone like to watch wouldn't exist, and without good photographers, those magazines that people like to read wouldn't exist either), so when they're denied even getting some kind of break by companies (Nike aren't alone in this, there are other BMX companies just as guilty), it seems utterly ridiculous.

Saw the pole jam in this S&M web-video, and it reminded me of how awesome pole jams are. Seriously, if you haven't ridden one, you're missing out. They're ride-able pegless too, so even if you aren't a fan of trick sticks you can still get involved. If you can't find one, make one - it's not hard.

This was something fun I had an idea for when I went to Spain to film the Fox Andalucia series. This idea came to me one night while lying in bed. I thought it would be a cool way for people to see Ruben’s hip for the first time. I thought that the matador was fitting due to the fact we were in Spain. Then, I heard this song by Beruit and it fit together perfectly in my mind. But due to music rights issues, I never got clearance, therefore the idea couldn’t be used for the Fox vid. For those of you that have seen the riding in the 3rd part of Andalucia, this contains a few clips from that, plus one pretty funny ending one. These clips never get old to me. We laughed for awhile with this one. Hope you dig it” - Joe Rich
