Whilst on a lurking session avoiding the fact I wasn't able to go out riding, I had a bit of a mooch around the Props website where they've got a pretty interesting feature on Filming boards. A bit different to the usual BMX-web-content, and quite interesting if you're into your filming. Even if you're not, click that link then just go explore their site - there's a boatload of content on there you might not have seen before, and some stuff you will have seen before but which is still good, e.g. this Tom Dugan "Setup" video I posted a while back.



Scott Ditchburn and Miles Rogoish are now officially 'pro' in a skateboarding sense, being as both now have a signature frame from Subrosa. There's details of both their frames over on Subrosa's site.

Is Matt Priest the UK version of Mike Aitken (Or "UK-tken" for short)? Goof, trails style, manny skills, etc.? Seems so...

How refreshing!

Certainly a "Love or hate" kinda person, Tom "Dang Dang" Dugan's Props bio is pretty cool. This is from #72 so not really that fresh, but got uploaded by Props a few days ago. Nice to see someone cranking at stuff, doing some different things and just plain sending it. Edit's pretty interesting too, and actually features some form of biographical information too which is a definite bonus. Refreshing change to the editing-by-numbers schtick everyone else pumps out these days.

I didn't see this there though, this was on the Mutiny site. Safe Nath is abroad at the moment, and here's a couple of not-much-fun looking crashes and a couple of cool lines from over there.

Pomegranate procrastination.

Well, I'm waiting for my friends to show up so we can go ride, so in the mean time apart from trying to work out what made me think buying a box of pomegranate arils would be a good idea, I might as well make mention of rad stuff I saw this week...

Tony Neyer who, according to Streetphire did a trick that was best described as 'naughty' on one of the most legit and indeed famous rails in Newcastle on Ride To Glory, now has a video up on ESPN featuring some ridiculousness. As a little warning, this video features an un-muteable gash pre-load video for Realplayer (the poor man's VLC (which says a lot bearing in mind VLC is free and Realplayer isn't)), so if - like me - you were trying to watch this at work and suddenly had some annoying American voice-over blaring out of your speakers, you might want to hit mute first.



The new Props is out soon (if not now?), and features some cool stuff. I wonder if they've started making Bios actually be biographical in any way now, instead of just a riding section? I guess it makes them sound more legit, but still, it'd be good to have a bit more depth to them. Did they lose the license for the Props song too?



Jared Chilko's videos were, to me at least, the sort of BMX video equivalent of warm milk. Sort of bland, but sort of relaxing at the same time. They seem to have gone down the route of pretty much every Chase Hawk video since Chill Bro now and feature some 'heavier' music (Which is definitely a good thing, in so much as I haven't seen a Chase Hawk video I haven't liked in... well... forever (see also: Mike Miller) and a bit less artfag-ness. I thought Vimeo had crashed at the ending, but apparently that was the banger, and that was the outro. Strange.



Lastly, 'cos I'd got it on my 'to watch list' but only just got round to doing so, a Gatorade - Go All Day edit that I thought was going to turn into a Cocaine - Go All Night edit when it hit the party scene. Pretty cool edit in fairness, gotta be hard having to make videos to impress suits whilst still being liked by 'normal' riders. Nigel Sylvester gets it done anyway.

Nathan Williams is ridiculously good. The music in this video is ridiculously bad. Regardless, he does some rad tricks in it so it's definitely worth a watch, just maybe on mute? Saw this on Ride UK.

Alex Raban sent over this day edit of Ian Munro shredding a school. Apparently it was supposed to be a “paid for” exclusive edit on a site, but it got turned down because the riding wasn’t up to par.

I wasn't particularly keen on it anyway, but it's interesting that that's how sites are operating these days. Point of the web-edit's apparently been missed?

The song used in this edit was one used for an old Dig (Which was where I saw this vid first!) ad in something like Props 50 - love the bassline in it, aaaaall good. If anyone knows the name of the song, comment away!



I'm aware that the Nike6.0 blog is written in a Xtreme Marketing Friendly™ manner that's supposed to Engage With The Target Audience, and that therefore it's going to sound a bit more "YEAH GNAR DUDE!" than is really necessary, but saying stuff like "Europe is known for culture, sophistication and decorum. Thanks to the Nike 6.0 BMX team, it's now known as a place to drop hammers and do work on two wheels." seems a bit rich. Nothing quite like completely devalueing part of your market by pretty much denying it's existence, or indeed ability and impact on their chosen sport? It's not like there's been no awesome riders from Europe? AAAAnyway, they're also doing some "Beat Gas" (Which I usually do by trying to not move around too much, and to not sit at an awkward angle or anything, then let it out in one big go) thing that Mr. Bighouse (When it's translated to English from French, anyway) noted earlier.



It's a pretty good endeavour I suppose, but I don't quite get why they're aiming the "Ride your bike around the city!" message at people who do ride their bikes "around the city" anyway. Ah well, maybe one day marketing and ad hype will begin to make sense?

Notro kicked off a few days ago, and Garrett Reynolds surprisingly didn't win. He did, however, win best trick for the line you'll see at the end of the video. It's amazing how most US (I know it's Canadian...) comps still look identical to comps from years ago. Looking back at super old issues of Props, it's like nothing's changed (apart from the amount of spins/whips, I suppose), compared to street riding which is significantly different to what it was like 'back in the day'...

Top 10 things this week...

Well, I've got a laptop again, and therefore access to the Internet. As a result of missing a fair bit of Blog-updating-time due to a heady mix of loads of uni work and loads of computer hassles, I thought I'd just do a Top Ten list for things I thought were cool recently.

1. Micreation have been a firm favourite of mine ever since that Eli Platt web-vid. Everything they produce is generally pretty top qual', so it was cool to see they've got a DVD on the way. It would've been cool if Ian Schwartz had had a part (Seeing as he used to have a signature shirt 'n' all), but they've got Joe Cox and Brad Simms in there, so beggars can't be choosers. 3. I've made a few friends in fairly unusual and pretty random situations due to BMX, and Josh is one of them. I really enjoy seeing new footage from him ('specially in Electronical), so it was cool to see this new video from Josh and Kyle.

5. Kink's new video. Since the Props 68 video came out, I've learnt to expect big things from Kink. Whereas they seemed to have a post-Jim C era lull, they're definitely back on it now with a rad team. As a direct result, their team video rules. Plenty of amazing riding from all kinds of people, and the best part is that it's all a mix of street, park and trails. Refreshing to see in the world of foot high ledges, XXXL t's and "gangsta" rap on repeat. This is unrelated, but here's a new release from Kink. Buy their DVD, it's in the Shop!

8. This probably should've been number 1, so just imagine I swapped them round - RIDING! It feels so good to be out riding again after not being able to for quite a while. It definitely makes you appreciate any time you do get to have a roll around, so if you're just sitting at home bored and it's not raining, head out now and get some riding in!

9. Finding a PrettyShady video up. Good times! (For trails dudes, if you're that desperate to ride, Newport indoor park has a set of 2 fairly large, fairly steep jumpboxes in a row so it's almost like trails...)




10. I remembered seeing a video by Kevin Kiraly ages ago that I thought was pretty rad, and it seemed strange how he was so unknown, despite being incredibly good. Here's yet more proof.
